Agroecosystems.Org
AgroEcosystems.Org is dedicated to providing a public forum for current information regarding sustainable agriculture, including news, events, articles, and opinions.
Human communities supported by sustainable agricultural practices have thrived world-wide for millennia. Only in the past 50 to 100 years has humankind’s historic balance with nature been disturbed on such a vast scale and with such rapidity. Current environmentally impacting and detrimental activities of conventional industry and agriculture are unsustainable and threaten the life support services of our earth’s ecosystems.
Adoption of the ecosystem paradigm as a design template achieves two primary objectives: (1) provides a convergent, consensual framework for building local sustainable communities, and (2) simultaneously mitigates global resource depletion and climate change.
A substantial body of ecological methodology exists (e.g., organic agriculture, permaculture, bio-intensive, etc.), but integration and implementation of these sustainable practices at the community scale is lacking. A major objective of this website is to explore and conceptualize human communities as fully functional, sustainable ecosystems.
